When fertility specialists are asked the same question — "when is the best time to freeze eggs?" — the answer almost always lands in the same range: between 30 and 34. Not because your fertility is declining sharply at 30. It isn't. But because freezing at 30 gives you the best combination of egg quality, egg quantity, and time.

At 30, you typically have a healthy ovarian reserve. Your eggs are at their chromosomal peak — the proportion of genetically normal eggs starts declining gradually after 35, more steeply after 38. And if you freeze at 30, you have years before you'd need to use them, which means maximum flexibility for your life plans.

What the data says about egg freezing success rates by age

The vitrification technique used today is highly effective at preserving egg quality. Survival rates post-thaw are around 80-90% in leading clinics. But the quality of what you freeze matters enormously — and that's where age plays its role. At 30, most eggs are chromosomally normal. By 38, approximately 50-60% of eggs carry chromosomal abnormalities. This is why freezing earlier gives you a higher probability of viable embryos when you eventually use your eggs.

In practical terms: a woman who freezes 15 eggs at 30 has a very different prognosis than one who freezes 8 eggs at 38 — even if both cycles went well technically.
